REDESIGNED

2020 has been an interesting year to say the least and like everyone else I’ve had to adapt to new ways of thinking and working. I’ve spent most of the year helping people move or modifying their homes to cope with the new home working situation. Part of this process has been being resourceful with furniture to suit new spaces or uses.

My love of refreshing older furniture really took off this year then, especially with limited resources and restricted availability or movement of pieces. So what started as a few lockdown projects to help people has now become a permanent feature for me and so I’ve launched RKD Furniture.

Sustaining – refreshing – up-cycling and adding colour to tired older brown furniture giving it the opportunity to still be useful and with a new look to suit today’s more modern interiors. These sometimes forgotten gems were so well made and don’t fall apart which is why they are still around today and therefore deserve to be given a new lease of life. Interestingly the proportions of some of these pieces are so much more suitable and useful especially in older properties. Modern furniture is very straight and big and sometimes you just need a little side table or glazed cabinet to usefully fill a gap.
